The Open Door is a Christian ministry outreach of Servants of the Word, Inc. and is dedicated to serving the hunger needs of our community without regard to race, color, creed or sexual orientation.
The mission of the Open Door is accomplished largely through the provision of nutritious meals served in a friendly and welcoming environment that includes encouragement for daily living, health screening and ongoing support for those in various community based treatment and support programs.
The Open Door began operation in 1991 by serving one meal a week. Since its inception the program has expanded the meal offerings to six days and includes distribution of bagged lunches to area children at risk as well as gleaned food and household necessities to individuals, families and other helping agencies within the community.
For more than twenty years the Open Door has achieved its mission through the generous financial and volunteer support of the community. Many area churches and other volunteers provide daily on-site support in meal preparation, serving and clean up.
