The Open Door is a Christian Ministry dedicated to reaching out and serving the needs of the homeless and
unfortunate of our community regardless of race, color, creed or sexual orientation. This is accomplished through the
provision of nutritious meals served in a welcoming environment.
In operation since 1991, the program began by serving a meal once a week. From there, the program has
expanded to a six day operation, recently serving more than 5000 meals each month (since 2004 our meal numbers have more than
quadrupled), distribution of gleaned and other food items to over 18 agencies and approximately 800 people in the Greater
Glens Falls area (targeting individuals and families that are in great need and are not in current receipt of other assistance
or services).
The Open Door also provides guests with encouragement for daily living, including sponsorship of a 12-step
recovery program, an informal mentoring program, informal monitoring of abused and neglected people.
In addition to the meals served in 2007 and 2008, we provided a Summer Lunch Program in South Glens
Falls, serving free lunches to children over the summer. Dozens of teachers and other volunteers from South Glens Falls
volunteered to make this program a success.
